Hi there! I’m Amanda Gunn, a scientist driven by curiosity and a passion for making a difference in the world. I see the world through a scientist’s lens, using data to uncover the fascinating details of our environment. What excites me most about science is its limitless nature—it’s an endless journey of discovery. I feel incredibly lucky to be part of unraveling the world’s mysteries, knowing there’s always more to learn. This thirst for knowledge inspires me to create innovative solutions for a better planet.

I currently work in health informatics, which is all about using technology and data to improve healthcare. Specifically, I focus on real-world data—information gathered from everyday healthcare settings, like electronic health records or patient registries, rather than controlled clinical trials. What I love most about this work is the opportunity to connect patients with the therapeutics they need, bridging the gap between data and real-life impact to help improve health outcomes.

Causes that Matter

Outside of my work as a scientist, I’m passionate about causes that align with my values—like social justice, public health, and tackling climate change. For the past decade, I’ve been on a mission to help restore nature by planting trees in areas affected by deforestation. It’s a simple yet impactful way to bring shade, revive ecosystems, and give back to the planet. This work ties closely to what I focused on during my time leading the Fish Lab community science program, where we restored fish-bearing streams to support healthier aquatic ecosystems and a stronger environment overall.

Dedication to Community

I’m a big believer in sharing knowledge and making information accessible to everyone. That’s why I volunteer to help communities and local fire departments learn about public health and infectious diseases. Promoting information literacy is something I’m really passionate about—I want to help people confidently navigate the world of science and make sense of it all. I’m also all about supporting the next generation, which is why I volunteer as a mentor and consultant for Binning Singletons, creating a welcoming and supportive space for future scientists.

Embracing Life

Also I love the snow.

Meet Phage
